Nature woven into a new head office

For its new Ōtautahi Christchurch head office Home NZ had a vision of weaving nature into the space, and the outcome has been award-winning. Working closely with Home NZ, we developed a design that complements the building's form and injects points of interest into the interior through statement greenery, achieving a strong visual impact inspired by Home's construction background.

Bespoke greenery, crafted in detail

The result is filled with bespoke detail. A sculptural moss wall layers three types of preserved moss around timber battens as a key focal point, its sweeping form offering a subtle reference to the South Island landscape, while Home's house-shaped logo is crafted entirely from reindeer moss in the stairwell, echoing the arched ceiling above.

A custom suspended moss panel, inset with recessed LED lighting, spans over four metres above the boardroom table, and aerial planting brings a living green canopy to the timber ceiling panels, complemented by freestanding planters in industrial Corten-inspired finishes, black powder-coated aluminium and glass-reinforced concrete. Together, this commercial greenery adds a calming influence and a genuine sense of home for those who work here.
