100 planters, 330 plants

Sylvia Lane, one of the hero dining districts, is a nature-filled laneway created using more than 100 bespoke planters filled with over 330 plants. A precise in-built irrigation system keeps them in optimal condition. In The Terrace, another dining destination, plush modular seating areas feature flourishing plants and a large focal in-built planter that cleverly combines plants and branding.

Sylvia Park's extensive exterior gardens are also crafted and maintained by Outside In, from mature trees to crisply cut hedging, native flaxes and flowering specimens. Since 2022, Outside In has also guided Sylvia Park through an award-winning sustainability programme, including a fully circular on-site composting scheme, rainwater capture and filtration, and a community garden tended to by local school children — part of a wider mission that has seen an expanding rooftop solar array now power over half of the centre's common areas, alongside comprehensive food waste systems introduced across the site. There's still work to do, but together these initiatives are helping create a brighter, greener future for Aotearoa New Zealand.
